June 23, 2017
As of June 30, 2017 I will be making some changes in my carburetor business.  I will not be taking in any new repair work to be completed before November 1, 2017.   I need to get caught up in the shop -- and have many other business and personal interests that also need my attention.

After about 15 years of this, I still like doing the rebuilding and turning a piece of brass into a functioning part of an antique automobile, truck or tractor.  However, this is not a modern repair shop where there are parts on the shelf.  This is a restoration service which sometimes requires me to spend hours and hours to make one small part or tearing down half a dozen parts carbs to find one needed part.  It is very time consuming.  I also test run and adjust virtually every carburetor to make sure it will work as expected when delivered.

I can not and do not promise any return dates.  You can request that I get your work done when you want it but that means someone else is waiting for theirs.

If you need a carb rebuilt be aware that it will not be back on your schedule, it will be back when I can get it done.  I am still working on a back log from 2016 and earlier.

In 2016 I got 16 carburetors in from a museum and 7 others for rebuild in one week.  I have carburetors in museums and collections all over the world but make them wait like everybody else.

At this point I am caught up to where I have about 15 or 20 to get done and in the mail and I will be pretty much caught up.  I may or may not accept any more work at that point.  I am old, getting older every day and every year and like most people, I am not as healthy 40 years ago when I was 35 and could work all day and night day after day.  I also have three other businesses including owning one of Montana's largest auction companies and have a couple girls and a college age boy I am helping raise.  They and their activities interest me and I will continue to attend their school activities, play music together and spend time with them doing other things -- helping them rebuild their 1948 CJ2A Jeep, teaching them to drive, etc.

I do not know of anyone else who does this work on brass carburetors so have no where else to send you.

Also, be aware that I no longer work on ANY Model T Ford carburetors newer than the Holley G.  I do work on the early Holleys for pre-T and early T Fords, Kingston ball types and the Holley G's.  I started this business pretty much by accident when I bought a Model T with a Stromberg OF that leaked like a sieve but ran well.  I fixed it, sold the car, bought another OF, fixed it etc.  I have now done well over 1,000 of those and will continue to buy, rebuild and sell those as I have time.  (As some of you may know, I spent over 40 years following in my father and grandfathers' footsteps as a violin repairman and maker.  Another grandfather was a jeweler and they were all farmers so I grew up working on anything that needed fixing.)

In mid July I hope to have a list of carburetors for sale from my extensive inventory and collection. I have several hundred carburetors in stock as well as one of the more extensive Model T Ford Accessory Carburetor collections.  Pretty much everything is for sale.

If you wish to be notified send me an email at stanhowemt@aol.com and I will notify you when it is available.

If you have a carburetor here and do not wish to wait any longer let me know and I will either get it done and to you or send it back with your payment.   But do not call me, especially when you are drunk on a Sunday afternoon and start ranting at me.  I will not tolerate that. Period. A recent episode of that was the impetus for this change in my business and this notification.

Thank you for 15 years of business.  However, please do not send me any carburetor without calling or emailing me and making sure we are on the same page for return times and that there will be extra charges for missing major parts, badly damaged castings, etc.  I also will no longer spend half a day disassembling a rusted, corroded, dented carburetor with missing and damaged parts and then have you tell me "The wife won't let me spend that much money on it, just send it back and I'll fix it myself"  and expect me to deliver it to your son that happens to be in Helena on a Sunday morning so you don't have to pay return shipping.  The law of the west is to check your purse before you order a round for the house.  That is what it will be here from now on.  I deal with customers and have plenty of work from people who are willing to pay for my time and expertise, I don't need that kind of people wasting my time.

I regret that I can no longer spend hours on the phone or answering emails every day giving advice on carburetors - rebuilding - etc.  I will also no longer be buying much inventory.  Send me an email with photos if you wish but I may not be able to answer it as soon as you wish.

Below is from earlier in 2017.
I am back in the shop and working every day, rebuilding and selling carburetors.  I got a lot done over the winter but am ALWAYS behind.  I am working on the back log of repairs and for the most part, try to get them out in the order they came in.  This time of year I am getting a lot of work in so it will be some time before you get your carb back if you send it in.  I try to get orders out for carbs that are sold as soon as possible but have NO stock of rebuilts on the shelf ready to go, all the ones I rebuilt over the winter have already sold and either are gone or will be within a few weeks.
New arrivals, special interest and rare carbs are on the SPECIAL CARBS FOR SALE tab, click it to see what I have.
You can call me at 406-949-3448 or email me at stanhowemt@aol.com.  I try to answer every call as it comes in but you may have to leave me a message.  I will call you back as soon as possible and answer emails as soon as I can get a minute or two to do so.

Thank you for the support of this little one old man business.

Thanks, Stan Howe

SPECIAL CARBS FOR SALE

March 15, 2015

Buy a good carb for your speedster or antique car, buy a good one and quit fooling with some piece of garbage that doesn't work now and won't when you need it. These are either NOS, rebuilt or close enough to rebuilt I can have one or more in the mail to you within a few days or a week or two depending on how busy I am with everything else I have going on.

Look these over and you will like them.

406-949-3448  is my cell.

UPDATED 3-31-2017

THIS IS A LIST OF SOME NEW INVENTORY THAT HAS COME IN -- INCLUDING SOME THAT I DO NOT HAVE PHOTOS OF.
THESE ARE ALL ONE-OF-A-KIND, HARD TO FIND, MIGHT NEVER SEE ANOTHER ONE OR CLOSE TO IT.

CALL TO TALK ABOUT THEM.

PRICES ARE FOR REBUILT AND READY TO BOLT ON

RAYFIELD UF: SIMILAR TO THE ONES BELOW.  COMPLETE -  $850

BREEZE: THE CORRECT ONE FOR THE 1909-1910 HUPMOBILE - this is one of the nicest unrestored ones I have ever seen.  Complete and correct, restored with a working needle and seat and the correct spring for the air valve.  These tend to have a lot of scabby work done on them and are hard to find in any condition.  This one is sold but I have another exactly like it.  $1000

ZENITH:  HP5A - THE HOLY GRAIL FOR T SPEEDSTERS.  FAST AND RELIABLE, THEY WILL LIGHT A FIRE IN AN OVERHEAD T OR A SPEEDSTER. PROBABLY MORE CORRECT FOR A T.  $1000

KINGSTON 6 BALL:  THE ONLY ONE I HAVE EVER SEEN.  Originally configured as an upturned flange, professionally converted to a side flange correct for Model T Ford.  These were reportedly fitted to some 1911 & 12 Torpedoes.  You have never seen one.  Fascinating and should run like a dream, this one is new old stock, never mounted on a flange, never a drop of gas in it as far as I can tell.  $1200 -- This is sold!

KINGSTON 6 BALL -- THE HOLY GRAIL OF MODEL T CARBS!!  Most T collectors have never seen one, let alone have the chance to own one.  Used on only a very few of the earliest T's.  This one is as close to new old stock as exists in the world. The only visible wear is a little wear on the throttle arm.   $3000.

Lots of 5 ball Kingstons in various configurations.  None for Model T right now.  Call to see what I have.  From little tiny ones for Brush and Evenrude to huge ones for early tractors and industrial engines, I have half a dozen or more.  Prices $500 -$2000

U & J - NEW OLD STOCK, COMPLETE WITH THE HEAT MUFF AND ALL THE PARTS INCLUDING THE RARE AND ELUSIVE CHOKE CONTROL.  I HAVE NEVER SEEN ANOTHER ONE.  $1250

MY other U & J carbs now come with reprints of the original literature than came with this carb and a polished reproduction of the choke setup.  It is very cool.   They are $1000 for the complete set with carburetor, manifold and choke setup.

RAYFIELD MODEL UF -- There are at least 100 Stromberg OF's around for every one of these, they were more expensive than just about any other carb on the market in the day, very few have survived in this condition and not one I've ever found had the heat muff and original tube PLUS the original dash control.  It is the first one I have ever seen.  This one is close to NOS, has been cleaned up and test run, it will make your Model T go ZOOM like few others.  Not cheap but have you ever seen another one???  I didn't think so.  Ready to bolt on.  $1000

This Rayfield above sold within an hour of putting it on the web site.  Thanks for looking.

4-2-2014  I bought another one of these at Chickasha, it is just about ready to go, should be done by tomorrow, April 3rd.  It has the choke lever and cable (which is harder to find than the carburetor) but no heat muff (which you don't want with today's fuels anyway)

Here it is in pieces, ready to go together.

This one is a little cheaper because it doesn't have the heat muff which collectors like if they are displaying a carb collection.  If you are going to run it you don't need the heat muff and it is $250 cheaper.  $750 ready to go. This one sold in a day but I have another one in stock as of October 2015.

Here is another one you will never see unless you get lucky.  This setup is one of the rare ones and they run great.  Rayfield L2P set up for Model T Ford.
The carb on this one is NOS, never had a drop of gas in it, when I got it the tag was still wired to it.  The manifold is the correct original but is used.

Only NOS one of these I've ever seen.  $850

Below is something I have never seen!  A NEW OLD STOCK Stromberg MB-1.  These are as good as it gets for a side draft for a speedster.  Bigger throat than an OF, these are the perfect carb for an overhead setup.  Simple, no economizer, just an accelerating well, only two adjustments plus idle speed, they are hard to find in any condition, let alone new old stock.  $1000

I also bought two more of these from the same guy, they are very nice but need restoration.  $750 each restored and ready to go. I also have one other very nice one for a total of FOUR matching MB-1's.  A perfect pair for a Roof or other overhead with dual intake ports.  I'll make you a deal if you buy more than one of these.

THIS SET OF 4 SOLD TO A GUY FOR A HILL CLIMB CAR!!
ZOOM ZOOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ZENITH S4BF -- THIS IS THE THE GO-TO CARB for the GO FAST bunch that are running stock manifolds and want a little more power.  Hard to find in any condition, this one is a fine find with lots of patina, nice tight shafts, etc., and will go on and run.  I'll put in a new needle and seat, fix the fuel inlet tube, etc., but leave the rest of it with the patina or for another $100 will clean and polish it and powder coat the manifold.  You will be amazed at how this will run.  Like all of my carbs, test run, adjusted and ready to bolt on and go drive.

$750 with the patina.
$850 polished and powder coated.

SOLD -- IT'S OFF TO A NEW OWNER WHO WILL GO ZOOM UP THE HILLS -- scroll down to see two that are for sale!!

FIRST BUYER GETS PICK OF THE MANIFOLDS.

I bought a nice S4BF Zenith recently with the original manifold, then in Chickasha bought a virtually new old stock S4BF. I will go through both of them and make sure they are good to go, add my adjustable main jet setup so they are easy to get to run just right and sell them both.

First guy gets to pick which manifold he wants -- the original Zenith manifold or an accessory one.

Note that you can't run a generator with the accessory manifold and the throttle rod will have to have a bend in it to reach the arm.

Also note that this is the same carb, the other one looks -- or will look -- exactly the same.

Manifolds will either be in bead blast or powder coat finish, you get to pick.

$900 for your choice - cleaned, polished and ready to bolt on and go ZOOM!!!

Here is a gorgeous original Stromberg OF with about the best patina I have ever seen.  Lots of green verdigris, excellent condition, it would be a shame to polish this one.  I have others for sale that are polished and shiny, this one needs to go on an original car.  It will get a new needle and seat, throttle shaft bushings, the economizer shaft fixed, etc. but will look just like this. I have the choke stop, it just isn't on the carb in the photo.

$595 ready to bolt on.

LOOK HERE!!!  This is one of the rarest Zeniths, an HP4S.  Probably the most popular speedster carburetor for overhead conversions, or just to put on a stock T to really liven it up, these are so rare I have only ever seen one other one.  That one is shown on another page and just went to Australia.  This one is like new, has the ball connector/bell crank intact so you can run the throttle sideways or if you want, I will make the throttle shaft longer so it is an up and down actuation with up for idle.
You will never see another one this nice.

It doesn't show here, but I also make an adjustable main jet needle for Zenith and will make and install one in this for another $100.  It really helps for fine tuning the mixture and is far easier than changing jets.

$750 with the standard jet, $850 with the adjustable.  Wanna go ZOOOM????  HERE IT IS!
!

Sold to a collector -- But I do have a couple very similar ones.

Here is a very rare Schebler, a side draft, water heated Model R.  Hard to find.  $650
